From the East Nashville listserv....
I wasn't at the meeting but it's my landlord's property and I have seen the plans. It will take a while to get things completed, so it'll be at least next year before anything really happens there...
March Egerton owns the property, and he's keeping the existing structure but redesigning it - as I said, I've seen the drawings and it looks nice. With a couple of smaller exceptions, nothing is leased yet, but the plan is to have the front anchored with a restaurant, possibly small retail, only a couple of spaces. The back of the building, which goes way back, farther than I realized, is going to be divided up into numerous small office/studio spaces. The entrance of each space will be separated by an attractive wood panel that will be lit at night - the entrances will go down the side of the building. These spaces are ideal for small businesses who don't need retail store front space, but need an office or studio; massage therapists, yoga studio, graphic design, travel agent, hair salon, small office...that kind of thing.
I know that a lot of people had their eye on the property, and I know that some residents of Eastland are concerned about how it will look or how it will affect traffic. I know that March is a landlord with a heart, and he really does care about East Nashville. He's a good guy who wants to do good for our neighborhood. He's planned for plenty of parking, landscaping, he's made sure that the building will look attractive from Eastland. While any development is bound to bring more traffic, I don't think these types of small businesses are going to have Eastland at a stand-still anytime soon.
I know that a couple of the smaller spaces already have tenants waiting - people in business across the river, even from Cummins Station are interested in the space.
